Worst Day Ever..

Postby Sabre on Sat Apr 12, 2008 8:42 pm

Sorry I haven't been on the forums much this weekend everyone, but my plan was to today, but wouldn't you know it, I think I just fried my laptop. Went out last night with some buddies, came back, went to bed, and I wake up to some spilled water all over my laptop. I am trying to dry it out, but as of right now won't even turn on..So I could be pretty fucked.

Any suggestions to help my chances?

1) MAKE SURE your battery is out, and it's not plugged in.

Open all the covers, plates, and parts that you can. Let it air dry for a couple days.

Plug it in (without the battery in) and then hope for the best. If it still doesn't even respond... =/ Could be something with the motherboard of the machine, which isn't something you can really do a whole lot about with most laptops.

Well the problem is, I couldn't remember for the life of me how water could get there, there was no cup, nothing, just a pool of clear liquid. Interestingly enough, I was talkin to my Dad and sister about it, and my sister mentioned her boss at work had a laptop that fried or "melted," where the coolant or some shit leaked out and had to be disposed of by a hazardous waste company, like a serious issue..Didn't know that shit could happen, so that's what most likely happened to it >.<

Ahh... gotta love laptops, I didnt know theres some kind of liquid coolant inside them? Watercooling came to my mind but those are pretty rare for laptops.

Anyways i hope you can get it fixed cause living without pc is torment (I spent a whole summer without a pc and something inside me died..) :O

It just makes a lot more sense than spilled water does. No cups, no cups in the sink or downstairs (Or in the dishwasher). Just doesn't add up that it's water, especially when I'm so anal about my computer and keeping it in good shape

EDIT: And I was just thinking, the fact that NO liquid was on the top of my laptop, only under, and perfectly centered around my computer, no where else on my desk. Tell me how spilled water does that

huh, yeah, water cooling is very very rare for laptops (don't think I've ever seen it, and I've been selling the damn things for almost two years now). But that's all I can think of too...

How old is the machine/what brand/etc is it?

It's a Dell, and yeah I've never heard of anything like this until my sister brought up that her boss' (my bud's mom) comp had it happen. I think I'll send it in to Dell to see what's up, it's just over 2yrs old now, an XPS M140
